In our efforts to engage various stakeholders such as State Governments where Sunflower are produced in large quantities, a Technical Engagement was held between the Association and the Plateau State Government through the State Ministry of Agriculture and Natural Resources and that of Commerce and Industry.
While the Team from the Ministry of Agriculture and Natural Resources was lead by the Permanent Secretary Mrs. Natong Pwaspo, the Commerce and Industry was lead by the Honourable Commissioner, Mr. Musa Sule

Today the Local Organizing Committee (LOC) held a meeting in regards to the 1st National Sunflower Submit with all its sub-committee members at the NEPC Conference Hall, Export House Abuja.

Giving the keynote address, The ED/CEO NEPC, DR. EZRA YAKUSAK congratulated all the Stakeholders for taking steps in the planning process towards organizing, the 1st National Sunflower Summit in Nigeria. He further stated that as Trade Promotion Organization, the Nigerian Export Promotion Council sees the urgent need for the Sunflower value chain to be developed to the level of being internationally acceptable and highly competitive in the global market with high hope of growing the export volume and value. He said the planned summit will no doubt create extensive public awareness and visibility for the Sunflower sub-sector in a move to push forward the economic diversification agenda of the federal government.

The National President of the National Sunflower Growers, Processors & Marketers Association of Nigeria (NSUNGPMAN), Mr JIBRIN K. Bukar also thanked the Executive Director/CEO of Nigeria Export Promotion Council (NEPC) for accepting to chair and host the Local Organizing Committee.

In his welcome address, Mr Jibrin K. Bukar spoke on Nigeria’s potential to generate wealth and employment for large number of people at the same time. He said “Industry watchers have projected that Sunflower sector can generate, as a key derivable, over $1.5 billion dollars annually from export to improve the country's revenue while internally it will improve the health status of the citizenry. We are poised to be part of this positive revolution in the Sunflower industry through the massive production of Sunflower seeds.
